Today,Confucius Classroom at Riga Technical University ushered in the first offline Chinese class
At 4:30 pm on October 18, 2022, Latvia time, Riga Technical University finally ushered in the first offline Chinese class since the epidemic. A new group of zero-based Chinese learners entered the Confucius Classroom accompanied by pleasant Chinese music. This semester’s Chinese class will be taught by Tang Luyao, a volunteer Chinese teacher.
At the beginning of the Chinese class, Ms Tang read a poem aloud. She felt that it was a wonderful arrangement to meet everyone in the Chinese class. She was also very happy to experience the charm of Chinese with everyone. Subsequently, Ms Tang introduced the Chinese name culture through her own name. She also introduced her hometown, Shenzhen, the students could see the rapid development of China’s economy from it.Ms Tang took Cantonese, her own dialect,as an example, to briefly introduce Chinese dialect culture. Students thought actively and asked some questions.
Afterwards, the students also introduced themselves and had a preliminary understanding of each other.Ms Tang introduced the course schedule for this semester and encouraged students who may be interested to take the HSK1 test at the end of this year.
Although most of the students have never been to China, they all have a certain understanding of China. As students of Riga Technical University, they pay close attention to the remarkable achievements of China’s high-tech development. Huawei, Xiaomi,DJI, BYD, etc. are all Chinese technology brands they are familiar with.
When it comes to the reasons why they came to the Chinese class, the students expressed their opinions and discussed enthusiastically. Some students think that learning Chinese is very interesting, while others see the huge potential of China’s economic development. A student pointed out that China’s qigong culture, traditional Chinese medicine, and Chinese cuisine are all deeply attracted to her. One student said that learning Chinese has always been her dream, and now she finally has the opportunity.
Starting from “nǐ hǎo”, Ms Tang introduced the composition of Pinyin and Chinese characters. When introducing the tones, Ms Tang took out a flute from her bag and played do-re-mi-fa-so, making the students feel that the four tones of Chinese are as harmonious and beautiful as musical tones. Students said it was novel and fascinating.
By learning the greeting “nǐ hǎo,nín hǎo,nǐmen hǎo”, as well as the 7 finals and 7 initials in Chinese, the students read it together.
Some unfamiliar and peculiar pronunciations frequently made the students laugh, and the class atmosphere was very happy.
At last, Ms Tang encouraged the students that in Chinese, nouns have no gender changes, and there is almost no difference between singular and plural in nouns, and verbs have no inflections. As long as they keep learning, the more they learn Chinese, the more interesting it will be.
The first Chinese class of this semester in the Confucius Classroom at Riga Technical University came to an end amid the sound of the students reading. We all look forward to the flower of Chinese language flourishing at Riga Technical University.
