Opening Ceremony of Confucius Classroom at Daugavpils University

On October third in Daugavpils, Latvia, Opening Ceremony of Confucius Classroom at DaugavpilsUniversity was held in the concert hall.

A total of over 100 guests attended the ceremony, including the ambassador of Chinese embassy in Latvia Huang Yong, and Counselor Liu Yejun，the mayor of Daugavpils city Janis Lacplesis, the rector of Daugavpils university, the directors of Confucius institute at University of Latvia Professor Shang Quanyu and Professor Peteris Pildegovics, the director of humanity faculty in University of Daugavpils, Ms. Maija Burima, reporters from Xinhua News Agency, LTV, students of Daugavpils university, etc.

Before the opening ceremony, the ambassador Huang Yong had a meeting with the mayor of Daugavpils city and the rector of the university. They believed with their joint efforts, the Confucius Classroom at Daugavpils university would become a platform of great importance for people in Daugavpils to study Chinese and learn about Chinese culture, and thus it would make contributions to promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

When the ceremony began, firstly the directors of Confucius institute at University of Latvia Professor Shang Quanyu and Professor Peteris Pildegovics delivered an opening remark. They summarized the achievements had been made since the first Chinese teacher taught courses in this university and thanked those who had contributed their efforts to establish the Confucius Classroom at Daugavpils University.

The ambassador Huang Yong made a speech after that. He noted that the Confucius Classroom  would meet the need of local people to study Chinese and cultivate more envoys of friendship who knew about China and had enthusiasm for Chinese culture. The mayor of Daugavpils city Janis Lacplesis and the deputy rector of Daugavpils university also gave a speech. They said the establishment of Confucius Classroom would open a window for students to learn about China and become a platform of great importance for the economy and culture exchange between China and Daugavpils. The ambassador Huang Yong also donated some Chinese books to DaugavpilsUniversity and then unveiled the plate of Confucius Classroom with the mayor.

After officially unveiling the plate, a group of students from Daugavpils university presented a spectacular show to all the guests.
