“Cultural Exchange between China and Latvia” exhibition in Riga Central Library

Local time at 4:00pm on November 13,2015, “Cultural Exchange between China and Latvia” exhibition had been held in Riga Central Library. Mrs. Zhang Hongge, local Chinese in Riga, hosted the exhibition. Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Shang Quanyu, Chinese teacher, Chinese teacher volunteers attended the exbibition and introduced Confucius Institute and Chinese calligraphy.

The event is divided into three parts. At first, Mrs. Zhang Hongge shared what she saw and heard and her feelings in Latvia, and recorded people’s daily life and deep friendship in two countries with her paintings. In this process, she carried out a series of cultural exchange activities. She also invited some models of her paintings to make a brief self-introduction. In addition, Mrs. Zhang Hongge also conducted a comprehensive explanation about Chinese architecture, traditional arts and other aspects, which made Latvian people learn more about the development of modern Chinese culture. In the second part, Mrs. Zhang Hongge invited Turkish artist, Ebru to show Turkish traditional art on site, which gave the audience an opportunity to contact with traditional art closely.  At last, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Shang Quanyu introduced Confucius Institute and get Chinese books to Riga Central Library. Yin Shasha and Wang Jiale, Chinese volunteer teachers, introduced Chinese characters and calligraphy and invited the audience to try to write with brush and understand the basic structure of Chinese characters.

Although everyone spoke in different languages, they got together and communicated with each other because of friendship and love for art and culture. The whole atmosphere was cordial and warm. This activity deepen understanding between Latvian and Chinese people and make more people learn more about the Confucius Institute and calligraphy.
