Chinese New Year cultural lectures held by Confucius Classroom at Rezekne University started
Latvia local time at 10:30 on January 21, 2016, Chinese New Year cultural lectures held by Confucius Classroom at Rezekne University began its first lecture at Eastern Latvia high school of technologies.
Chinese volunteer teacher Liang Mingxuan first greeted to the students and teachers with “Happy Chinese New Year” in Chinese language, then she began to introduce Chinese traditional festival — Spring Festival. At first,she depicted the phrase of the moon,and introduced the Chinese lunar calendar which has been used since ancient times.She also said that a lot of Chinese traditional festivals are based on the lunar calendar . Then she let the teachers and students guess what the 12 cute cartoon animals are, and explained they are 12 Chinese zodiac and the audiences that 2016 is the Year of the Monkey.
When Introducing Spring Festival, she first explaind the origin of Chinese New Year, and the Chinese people how to celebrate this Festival. When talking about New Year’s Eve, she said after the big dinner ,family members will watch the Spring Festival Gala together, she played the classic show “Avalokitesvara(a Buddha with thousands of hands)in 2005 Spring Festival Gala Show,when the teachers and students knew the performers are deaf people , they all thumbed to praise for it.
At the end of the lecture, Tr.Liang explained a number of Chinese proverbs about spring and told students that Chinese people like spring time because spring symbolizes beauty and hope. Then, she wrote the Chinese character “chun”which means spring and taught the students to do the paper cutting of “chun”.Finally, students were holding their “Spring” paper-cutting happily and taking photos, hoping that they would have more opportunities to experience colorful Chinese culture.
