Spring Festival Gala Show in Riga No.34 Secondary School
Local time at 13:15 on February 5th in Latvia, Spring Festival Gala Show had been held in Riga No.34 Secondary School.
Chinese ambassador in Latvia,Mr. Huang Yong, Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Shang Quanyu, Latvian Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Peteris Pildegovics, teachers and students from Riga Culture School, Chinese teacher Evita, Chinese Volunteer teacher Yuan Yu and students were invited to attend the event.
Before the Gala Show started, Grade-one students warmed the atmosphere by singing a pleasant traditional Chinese song<Gongxi gongxi>. With the harmony, headmaster Mrs. Natalia Rogaleva gave a welcome speech to students, teachers and invited guests. Chinese ambassador in Latvia, Mr. Huang Yong made a speech and gave away gifts to school for Spring Festival. In the meanwhile, another lively speech was gave by Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Shang Quanyu and Latvian Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Peteris Pildegovics which described a bright future of the Chinese teaching in school as well as wished everyone all the best in new year. Then, students sang <Molihua>, Mrs. Goncharenko introduced the Chinese teaching in school.
Local time at 13:30, the Gala Show started with an introduction of the origins of Chinese New Year. After that, grade–one students sang a lovely song < Two Tigers>. To let everybody know more about the Spring Festival, students introduced culture of the Spring Festival minutely as well as performed us a little drama about the celebration of Spring Festival in China. Then Chinese teacher Evita and Yuan Yu made a traditional Chinese tea for the guests. After the tea ceremony, students read poems about the festival and sang <Edelweiss> sweetly. Nastya from grade-eight also sang a Chinese song< Wo de gesheng li>. At the last, the Gala Show ended in a hot dance and exciting Kongfu show.
Through this activity, Chinese traditional culture is blooming again in Latvia, and communication and friendship between Latvian and Chinese people enhance.
