The first Dumplings Making Competition was successfully held in the Confucius Classroom at Daugavpils University
Local time 3:45pm, on 25th February, 2016, The first Dumplings Making Competition was ceremoniously opened the curtain in the Confucius Classroom at Daugavpils University. More than 30 people took part in this activity, including students and teachers from the university and also some city residents who are very interested in Chinese culture.
Before the competition, volunteer teacher Wang Zhijie gave a brief introduction about how Chinese people celebrate their biggest festival—the spring festival and the history of dumplings. Then Chinese teacher Ni Yirong demonstrated how to make dumplings one step by one step. Under the guidance of the teacher, everyone rolled up their sleeves, kneaded dough and filled stuffing with great enthusiasm. After learning how to make it, they had a competition of “Who makes the fastest”. The students were divided into 5 groups, and the group that can make the most dumpling wrappers in 3 minutes will be the winner. It turned out that Natalja won this fastest competition with more than 20 dumpling wrappers. Then came the most exciting part of the competition called “Who Makes the Best”. Every group should put their dumplings on a big plate and decorate it with vegetables and fruits. They cut cucumber into slices to make beautiful shapes or carved carrots into different patterns. Every group made their own wonderful masterpieces. So at last every group was given a beautiful hotpot as an award. Finally, They boiled the dumplings and enjoyed their works.
The activity ended in a joyous and harmonious atmosphere. All the participants agreed that it was quite interesting and meaningful to hold such a competition. They hope to have more activities like this in the future.
