Chinese Culture Day in Riga Culture Secondary School
Chinese Culture Day took place in the Confucius Class of Riga Culture Secondary School on April 20th of 2016, which brought a series of cultural events for six classes.
The Culture Day was started from the chopsticks lecture for Belgian exchange group. Chinese teacher taking advantage of basic Chinese greeting words to guide students into Chinese world. With a riddle next, teacher started to talk about the cultural topic, that is chopsticks. And then when students had some knowledge about cultural background and how to use correct way, teacher divided students into three groups to play the relay race that using chopsticks to pick up seeds, which brought everyone to hilarious atmosphere. It is worth mentioning that, when some Belgian students met Chinese teacher later that day, those students could say hello in Chinese very fluently.
After the Belgian group, students from 12th Grade started to learn another culture type, which is Chinese ancient poem. From the famous Deng Guan Que Lou, teacher helped students to explain the meaning and appreciate the beauty of the poem, as well as to use how to use the last sentence of the poem “Geng shang yi ceng lou” to make good wish for others. In the end, this lesson was brought down the curtain on the sound the reading.
Later, teachers also presented another chopsticks lecture and Chinese calligraphy experience lesson for students.
The climax of the Culture Day was the last event of Chinese tea. Teacher introduced the origin of tea’s name, history, main types of tea and tips for different tea, and performed tea ceremony of oolong tea and black tea for students. Students also experienced how to make tea ceremony according to teacher’s guidance, and every student tasted two types of tea after tea ceremony.
As the symbol and essence of Chinese culture, chopsticks, ancient poem, calligraphy and tea ceremony in Chinese Culture Day Event dished up a cultural feast for students. Not only students of Confucius Class at RigaCultureSecondary School, but also students from Belgium felt the charm of Chinese language and culture in this culture event.
