Opening Ceremony of Latvian Chinese Studies Association
In the afternoon of August 24th,Opening Ceremony of Latvian Chinese Studies Association was held in Small Auditorium of Main Building at University of Latvia. Mr. Huang Yong, Chinese Ambassador to Latvia, Mr. Andrejs Pidegovics, State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Mr. Zhang Fang, Director of Department of Asian Affairs of MFA, Mr.Li Tao, counsellor of Chinese Embassy, Mr. Zeng Fuhua, consul of Chinese Embassy, Prof. Janis Priede from Department of Asian Study,Prof. Shang Quanyu, Chinese-side Director of LUCI, Karina Jermaka, president of Latvian Chinese Studies Association, Julija Gumilova, vice president of Latvian Chinese Studies Association, Jekaterina Pavlova, Latvian Chinese Studies Association secretary, students who had studied in China, students who are going to study in China, overseas Chinese in Riga, and the LUCI secretary and Volunteer Chinese Teachers attended this ceremony.
The year 2016 is the year of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Latvia. It is the 5th anniversary of the establishment of Confucius Institute at University of Latvia. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, more than 200 Latvian students have studied in China, most of whom have returned to Latvia. Under this background, Chinese Embassy in Latvia actively promotes the establishment of the association. During the ceremony, president of the association Karina Jermaka firstly introduced the functions and importance of the Latvian Chinese Studies Association and expressed the wish to make contribution to the relationship between China and Latvia. Mr. Andrejs Pidegovics expressed congratulation on the establishment of the association. He wished that further cooperation in education and technology could be extended in the bilateral relations between two nations. Mr. Huang Yong expressed his faith in friendly exchanges between China and Latvia and his congratulations on the establishment of Latvian Chinese Studies Association. Then a wonderful performance was followed, including Tai Ji, Chinese song and lion dance.
