The Fifth Council of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia was held
On December 12, 2016, the Fifth Council of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia was held at South China Normal University. Vice President of South China Normal University Prof. Wu Jian, Dean of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia Prof. Pildegovičs, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia Prof. Shang Quanyu, Director of the Confucius Institute of the South China Normal University Wang Weimin, Director of the Confucius Institute of the University of Latvia; , Professor Huang Mingxi, Dean of the Academy of Education and Science of South China Normal University, and Ye Xiaoni, Manager of the Confucius Institute at South China Normal University attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Wang Weimin, deputy director, which was in a harmonious atmosphere in the prelude.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Wu Jian delivered an opening speech. First of all, Vice President Wu Jian congratulated Prof. Pildegovičs on the honorary title of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and the “Confucius Institute Medal”, and expressed his high regard to Prof. Pildegovičs’s contribution to the development of Latvian Chinese. Secondly, Vice President Wu Jian congratulated Riga 34 Middle School on the successful bid to host the Confucius Classroom and the addition of two Chinese teaching spots. Once again, the Fifth China Eastern and Central European Leadership Summit and the Sino-Eastern European countries Sinology Research and Chinese Teaching Seminar held in Latvia successfully, which can not be separated from the full cooperation and support of the Confucius Institute, Vice President Wu Jian, expressed his greetings and thanks to the two Dean and Chinese volunteer teachers. In the end, Vice President Wu Jian pointed out the core objectives of the Confucius Institute’s development. He said that the school would continue to support the construction and development of the Confucius Institute as well as the smooth and prosperous Chinese industry.
Then the director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia, Professor Shang Quanyu, summed up the work of the Confucius Institute in 2016. This paper summarizes the fruitful achievements of Confucius Institutes and the valuable experience gained from the teaching activities, cultural activities and other activities. It is concluded that Chinese language teaching, Chinese learners, local teachers, academic lectures and Chinese studies, cultural activities, exhibitions, scholarship application, Sino-Latin American cultural exchange and dictionaries and teaching materials, etc. Publishing; have a number and quality of the leap. In particular, the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia in the Central and Eastern European countries, Chinese research and Chinese teaching seminars, is the first time in the history of the University of Latvia Confucius Institute, the University of Latvia and Latvia. The delegates also met with Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council and the Prime Ministers of the 16 Central and Eastern European countries. The symposium will play an important role in the development of Sino-Eastern European sinology, Chinese language teaching and the development of Confucius Institutes.

The expansion of teaching points, the development of teaching materials, the implementation of the New Sinology Program, the localization of Chinese teaching, the strengthening of links with enterprises at local land and abroad, the recruitment and training of Chinese teachers and the electronic dictionaries. We all agree with the work plan, while the Confucius Institute issues facing a warm and pleasant discussion, for the future development of Confucius Institute offer advice and suggestions.

Time unknowingly slipped away in a happy and relaxed atmosphere, Beijing time at 6:30 pm on the 12th, the meeting came to an end in a laughter. 2016 is a year of harvest. In this year, the University of Latvia Confucius Institute got rich fruits. As Vice President Wu Jian said, “rich in content, bright spots, clear objectives, and bright future” is a clear portrait of the University of Latvia Confucius Institute.
