The theme of “Chinese Spring Festival” culture experience was held at Confucius classroom at Riga Cultures Secondary School
Latvia Local time from December, 2016, to February, 2017, the theme of “Chinese Spring Festival” culture experience was held at Confucius classroom at at Riga Cultures Secondary School. This activity includes martial arts, Chinese cuisine, and calligraphy. From November, 2016, Chinese teachers at Confucius classroom had begun to plan for this activity. During this time, Chinese teachers wrote the scheme, sent invitations to martial arts teacher and calligraphy teacher, purchased materials, etc, and this lasted for more than a month.
In December, 2016, Chinese teachers at Confucius classroom at at Riga Cultures Secondary School invited martial arts teacher from Latvian Sports Wushu Federation, the martial arts teacher led students into a martial arts experiencing journey. Martial arts teacher started with Taiji boxing. After Taiji boxing, it was the advanced stage, Taiji fan. When one week martial arts lessons were finished, students still showed lots of interested in martial arts, and hoped that there would be more martial arts lessons in the future.
In January, 2016, a week when Chinese Spring Festival was around the corner. Chinese teachers at Confucius classroom had Chinese cooking lessons for students. For grade 12, the lesson was about hotpot. For grade 11, the lesson was about making Chinese dumplings. During the lessons, students had a deep understanding of Chinese Spring Festival.
In February, 2016, calligraphy teacher from the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia had the theme of “Chinese Spring Festival” calligraphy lessons. Calligraphy teacher introduced the history of Chinese character, four treasures in Chinese study, the way to hold the writing brush and how to write the basic strokes. And finally, calligraphy teacher taught students to write the Chinese character Chun, which has a close relation with the Spring Festival. Students were so concentrated that they learned very fast.
After this culture experience, students have a deeper understanding of Chinese Spring Festival, including the decoration culture, the eating, the celebration culture, etc. Students show a great interested in practical lessons, and hope more such lessons in the future.
