Chinese New Year Cultural Lecture Held by Confucius Classroom at Rezekne Academy of Technologies

Latvia local time at 16:00 on February 10, 2017, Chinese New Year cultural lecture held by Confucius Classroom at Rezekne Academy of Technologies began .

Chinese volunteer teacher Zhao Qian first greeted to the students and teachers with “Happy Chinese New Year” in Chinese language, then she began to introduce Chinese traditional festival — Spring Festival. At first,she depicted the phrase of the moon,and introduced the Chinese lunar calendar which has been used since ancient times.She also said that a lot of Chinese traditional festivals are based on the lunar calendar . Then she let the teachers and students guess what the 12 cute cartoon animals are, and explained they are 12 Chinese zodiac and the audiences that 2016 is the Year of the Monkey.

When Introducing Spring Festival, she first explained the origin of Chinese New Year, and the Chinese people how to celebrate this Festival. When talking about during New Year,the elders will give the younger generation red envelope for good luck,the students are all curious,Chinese volunteer teacher Zhao Qian taught them to make their own “Chinese New Year Red Envelope”.

Finally, students were holding their “Chinese New Year Red Envelope” happily and taking photos, hoping that they would have more opportunities to experience colorful Chinese culture.
