1. Courses Description
The Confucius Institute at University was founded on November 4th, 2011. It is the only authorized organization of Chinese teaching and Chinese culture research in Latvia. During the summer vacation, short Chinese courses will be provided by the Institute in order to meet the requests of enthusiasts who want to learn Chinese. The courses will be divided into two levels (3 groups). They are the Teenagers and Children’s level and the Adults and Undergraduates level. The Summer Courses, which consist of Daily Life Chinese Conversation and Interesting Chinese Culture Activities, are aimed to improve abilities of Chinese listening, speaking and communication skills.
2. Schedules for the Courses
(1) Overall Arrangement
Class time:July 8th, 2013 to August 16th, 2013. ( For 6 Weeks.)
Monday and Wednesday are for the Teenagers and Children’s level; Tuesday and Thursday are for the Adults and Undergraduates level. And Friday is for the two level’ Chinese Culture classes.
(2) Specific Time
Teenagers and Children’s level, Class One (8-13 years old):
10:00 am—11:30 am
Teenagers and Children’s level, Class Two (14-17years old):
14:00 pm—15:30 pm
Adults and Undergraduates level,(18 years old and over 18 years old):
18:00 pm—19:30 pm.
3. Courses Content
(1) Teenagers and Children’s level, Class One (8-13 years old)
Teaching materials: Happy Chinese
Courses Content:The course covers 12 topics. They are about Chinese phonetic alphabet, Greeting, Self-introduction, Family members, Friends and works, Life and hobby, Physical health, Clothing and color, Shopping, Asking for directions, Taking buses, Traveling, Birthday celebration.
Interesting Chinese Culture:Calligraphy, Operatic face painting, Chinese songs, Chinese movies, Shuttlecock, Paper-cutting.
(2) Teenagers and Children’s level, Class Two (14-17years old):
Teaching materials: Easy Chinese
Courses Content:The course covers 12 topics. They are about Chinese phonetic alphabet, Chinese characters, Self-introduction, Family members, Life and works, Friends and hobbies, Physical health, Shopping, Telephoning, In the restaurant, Asking for directions, Taking buses, Traveling, Birthday celebration.
Interesting Chinese Culture:Calligraphy,Operatic face painting, Chinese songs, Chinese movies, Ping-pong, Shuttlecock.
(3) Adults and Undergraduates level(18 years old and over 18 years old):
Teaching materials: Everyday Chinese
Chinese language Video for the Classroom (Primary)
Courses Content:The course covers 12 topics. They are about Interpersonal communication, Time and weather, Living, Diet, Shopping, Asking for directions, Seeing the doctor, Renting a house, Traffics, Communication, Study and life, Health and leisure, Traveling, Environmental protection.
Interesting Chinese Culture:Calligraphy, Chinese songs, Chinese movies, Ping-pong, Tai Chi, Chinese tea Ceremony.
4. Registration Time
The registration time is from June 17th to July.7th. Applicants can go through the application procedures to the office of Confucius Institute at University of Latvia or submit the necessary materials online before June 20th ,2013. But we only deal with application on line after June,20th,2013.
5. Enrollment Requirements:
Teenagers and Children’s grade, Class One:People aged at 8 to 13 and in good health who want to learn Chinese here.
Teenagers and Children’s grade, Class Two:People aged at 14 to 17 and in good health who want to learn Chinese here.
Adults and Undergraduates grade:People aged at 18 or over 18 and in good health who want to learn Chinese here.
6. Application Materials

(2) ID card or copy of passport;
(3) Two passport-sized photos.
7. Tuition
Summer courses are free to all children and students of Latvia University. The other applicants should pay tuition 72 Ls, which is including registration fee, courses fee and activity fee. After submitting all the necessary materials, please transfer the fees into the account of Latvia University:

Please indicate that the contribution was paid for the University Confucius Institute Chinese language summer course. After payment, please get the admission ticket from the office of Confucius Institute at University of Latvia with the bank receipt.(There is NO refund for whatever reasons once enrolment is confirmed and fees are paid).
8. Course Certificate
The students who accomplish the entire summer short Chinese course in accordance with the regulations will obtain the Course Certificate from Confucius Institute at University of Latvia. And priority will be given to continue the 2013 Autumn Chinese Course at Confucius Institute.
