Application for Chinese Government Scholarship—Chinese University Program 2014
1. Introduction
Chinese Government Scholarship—Chinese University Program is a full scholarship established by MOE to support Chinese universities in specific provinces or autonomous regions to recruit outstanding international students for graduate studies in China. At present, a total of 221 Chinese universities are designated to undertake this program. As one of the key comprehensive universities, South China Normal University(SCNU) undertakes the enrolment of international postgraduates under this government scholarship.
2. Eligibility
(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
(2) Applicants should not be a registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application or be a graduate from Chinese universities for more than one year.
(3) Education background and age limit:
· Applicants for master’s degree studies must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
· Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

Note: This scholarship is not available to students majoring in their native language or in a third-country language such as English or French.
4. Duration of scholarship

★As all the programs of SCNU are conducted in Chinese, new HSK5(old HSK6) or equivalent Chinese proficiency is required. If you haven’t achieved the language level yet, please include your Chinese Study in the “Language Proficiency and Proposed Study in China” application Section. Only by passing the required HSK test after the Chinese language course could they start their major studies.

6. Scholarship Coverage
① a waiver of fee for registration, tuition, laboratory experiments, internship, and basic textbooks; free on-campus dormitory accommodation.
② Living allowance: RMB 1,700/month/person for master’s students; RMB 2,000 /month /person for doctoral students;
③ One-off settlement subsidy: RMB 1, 500/person after registration;
④ outpatient medical service and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China

8. Application procedures
Applicants are eligible for scholarship assessment only after they are admitted to the master’s or doctoral program of SCNU.
(1) Applicants shall make online application at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn (Agency No. of SCNU: 10574) and download and print out the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship and then sign the form.

(2) Submission of application documents:
Send by post to SCNU International Student Administration Division of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, SCNU by 31st March 2014 the following required documents. a. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship(in Chinese or English).

c. Notarized highest diploma (photocopy): Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
d. Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
e. A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English with a minimum of 800 words.
f. Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
g. Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of their own works. Applicants for fine arts programs must submit a CD of their own works which include two sketches, two color paintings and two other works.
h. A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org). The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.
i. Applicants with valid HSK Certificate should enclose it in the application package.
*The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in in triplicate). No application documents will be returned.
9. Selection and notification
Applicants will be given priority consideration if they graduate from world-renowned universities, sister universities or are recommended by senior professors or experts. A panel of experts at SCNU will screen candidates for the scholarship and submit a list of nominees to university authorities for approval. Scholarship decisions will be made on the basis of the applicants’ application documents, academic performance, overall merits, research achievements and supervisors’ comments. The final list of nominees will be submitted to China Scholarship Council for final approval.
The result will be published on the website of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation(http://202.116.45.200/wsh/en/index.html) in late June 2014. Scholarship winners will be notified via email and their Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW201) will be sent out as soon as possible.
