Foreign Dean of Confucius Institute Mr. Pildegovics was invited to talk about modern China
On October 27,2014, a few special guests came to the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia. They are staff of the the Latvian Radio. In order to produce a special program “The 1940s China,” they came to the the Confucius Institute to interview the famous Chinese scholar Professor Pildegovics, asked him to talk about his understanding of modern China.
Professor Pildegovics not only has a high attainments in Chinese language, but also has a profound understanding for China’s modern history. He stood in a historical perspective se made objectively reviewed the 1940s of China. This stage had a very profound impact on China’s Modern History, the western powers invaded the Chinese society which has undergone dramatic changes. China began to become a semi-feudal society. Revolution led by Sun Zhongshan in 1911 is China’s first revolution against imperialism and feudalism, which overthrew the Qing dynasty’s rule and established a bourgeois democratic republic country. 1931 Japan launched the Mukden Incident, the Chinese nation was facing a serious national crisis. After the victory, the Communist Party of China led the people to the final liberation after three years. In 1949, New China founded.
Professor Pildegovics has paid close attention to China since the 1940s through magazines and other channels. He learnt a lot of knowledge about the history of modern China during the study period in Institute of Oriental Languages of Moscow State University. He came to Shanghai China five times, every time chatting with local people to know the Sino-Soviet relations during the Soviet period. In the fifties and sixties of the 20th century, as the embassy consul in Beijing, where he often saw many elderly people sang Soviet songs in the park. He often talked with them to enhance understanding of China.
