Directors from Confucius Institute at Latvia University Visited Chinese Teaching Center in Rezekne Higher Education Institution

On November 19, 2014, Professor Shang Quanyu and Professor Pildegovics, the two directors of Confucius Institute at Latvia University visited Rezekne Higher Education Institution which is one of the Chinese teaching centers in Latvia. Professor Gunars, the Deputy Rector of External Ralations and Development Issues and Iveta, the Head of Life Long Learning Centre hold a meeting with the two directors and Chinese teacher Wang Shuhui . The meeting including Chinese teaching situations until now, advertisements of Rezkene Chinese teaching center and perpetrations for establishing the Confucius Classroom in the future. The directors visited main building, engineer building, some libraries and laboratories guided by Professor Gunars.
At 4 pm, Professor Shang Quanyu and Professor Pildegovics met some students who are learning Chinese. Chinese side director Professor Shang introduced Chinese teaching in Confucius Institute at Latvia University, HSK exams, Confucius Institute scholarship applying, Chinese government scholarship applying and Chinese Summer camp. The two directors encouraged Chinese learners take the good chance to learn Chinese here and try to apply study Chinese in China, to experience Chinese language environment and learn Chinese culture deeply. Professor Shang Quanyu also described how the students felt after living and learning in China for some days. He mentioned that, now days China and Latvia have more corporations in economy and culture. More Latvians are learning Chinese and they learn Chinese very well, also find a good job. Latvian side director Professor Pildegovics introduced many information about China through his own experience of learning Chinese, teaching Chinese, working and living in China, working at Confucius Institute, joining the Confucius Institutes meetings hold by different countries. Some students interested in Chinese traditional culture, Chinese ethnic groups, Chinese dialects and Chinese characters. They asked questions based on these problems in an active atmosphere.
At the end of meeting, Iveta on behalf of Rezekne Higher Education Institution expressed thanks to the two directors’ coming and speech. And also show her satisfaction to Chinese teacher Wang Shuhui for her teaching in Rezekne Higher Education Institution. Everyone hopes that the corporation could be continuous and development of Chinese teaching here will goes well.
