Confucius Institute at University of Latvia Successfully Held Tea-Culture Activity
“Do you know what are the 3 most famous soft drink in the world?” “Coffee?” “Tea!” “Cola?” At 18:00 o’clock on May 28th, a heated discussion and laughter came out from Room 410 of Confucius Institute of University of Latvia. Tea-culture activities were held with beautiful Qin sound and tea aroma by Confucius Institute at University of Latvia.
This activity is quite different from previous ones which were led by teachers. Instead, the activity was a combination of students’ presentations and teachers’ tea performances. In the first part, 7 students presented some tea-related culture in order in Chinese as well as in English, including tea history, green tea, black tea, Oolong tea and so on. Then two teachers from Confucius Institute performed tea ceremony. In the last part, students enjoyed their experience of making and drinking tea. Some students even brought their own tea for drinking and tea sets for others to take a look. Different opinions about tea were shared and questions were raised at the same time, which made the activity more lively. During the tea ceremony performance given by Ms. Jin Jing and Ms. Fang Siqi, all the tea sets and tea-making procedure were highly appreciated and students have got an understanding of the elegant and charming tea ceremony.
Making friends with tea has been a cheerful event for Chinese people. And in this activity, people from different countries gathered together to know each other better and get more understanding of Chinese culture all through a small cup of tea. It was quite an enjoyable moment and it is hoped that we can make more friends through tea in the future.
