Confucius Institute of Latvia University Successfully Held the Chinese Character Competition in Daugavpils University
If you have to write down only one your character, which one would you choose? In the Chinese Character Competition held on May 27, 2015 in Daugavpils University, seven participants chose their favorite characters. These seven participants are from Daugavpils University and Daugavpils No.13 Secondary School. Except one, the other participants have learned Chinese in Daugavpils University for more than six months. The participant who have never studied Chinese Lina selected “天”,literally means “sky”, she said she likes the blue sky and hope the sky is always blue and clean, no pollution, no cloudy. By learning Chinese nearly a year, Zaklina chose “你”, literally means “you”, The reason is that it is the first Chinese characters she had tried to write when she learned Chinese on the internet by herself as she had no chance and place to learn Chinese. Since the university launched the Chinese course, she knew more about Chinese language and cultural knowledge, starting from “你”, now more and more Chinese characters can be written very well. Linda, who learning Chinese nearly two years, wrote the “I” in Chinese characters, she explained,”我” is the simplest and most commonly used Chinese characters, we can use “我” to say a lot of sentences, but everyone has an “I” in our mind, We should not only write “I” beautifully, but also do it well. The other students selected the Chinese characters “snake”, “green”, “hope”, “Autumn”, etc.
As the Chinese Characters Competition aims at showing students’ calligraphy skills, stimulating enthusiasm for Chinese learning, exchanging and sharing the learning experiences and feelings, there is no ranking among participants, all participants have received Chinese books and Chinese knots from Chinese teachers as an encouragement and reward of students’ wonderful performance and preparation.
