Confucius Institute at Latvia University and Confucius Institute in Tallinn Held Experience Exchange Meeting

On June 19th 2005, Confucius Institute at Latvia University and Confucius Institute in Tallinn held experience exchange meeting together in the Senate Hall of Latvia University. Vice rector Mrs. Yao Lingzhen of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, which is also the cooperative academy of Confucius Institute in Tallinn, together with director Mrs. Sun Bing from international cultural exchange institute, personnel director Mr. Cheng Lin, foreign affairs director Mr. Li Hong have attended the meeting. Also, Chinese director of Confucius Institute at Latvia University Mr. Shang Quanyu, as well as teachers from Humanity Faculty, Confucius Institute at Latvia University, Riga Cultural Secondary School, together with consul Mr. Zeng Fuhua have attended
the meeting.
During the meeting, Mrs.Yao first introduced the Chinese programs and subject advantages in Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, also she sincerely invited students in Latvia to visit and study in their university. Then, Professor Shang Quanyu made a brief introduction of Confucius Institute at Latvia University. Later, the two parties had a discussion on several topics, such as how to better cooperate with local university and embassy, how to get maximum support from Hanban, and so on. In the discussion, Mr. Zeng Fuhua analyzed the reasons of success of Chinese teaching in Latvia from embassy angle. And all the teachers have shared their opinions in the view of institute, students, teacher selection and teaching management. Although the meeting was only two hours, they reached some common senses that in order to develop Chinese program, it’s very possible to cultivate more local Chinese teachers. Meanwhile, the great function of Hanban and embassy
couldn’t be ignored. Moreover, language is tool, there’s huge need to have more researches of other subjects.
After the meeting, Mrs. Yao has expressed their gratefulness for this experience exchange meeting and they gained a lot from it. After applying what they’ve learned to their Chinese program, further success will be achieved.
