The Second Meeting of the Third Council of Confucius Institute at University of Latvia

On the morning of June.29th, 2015, the second meeting of the Third Council of Confucius Institute at University of Latvia was held in University of Latvia. Vice rector of University of Latvia Prof. Andris Kangro, vice rector of South China Normal University Prof. Huang Xiaobo, Confucius Institute at University of Latvia foreign side director Prof. Peteris Pildegovics, Confucius Institute at University of Latvia Chinese side director Prof. Shang Quanyu, director of foreign affairs department Ms. Alina, director of Labor Union and Teacher’s Representative Committee of South China Normal University Prof.Hu Jinsong, Vice director of Public Relations of South China Normal University Prof. Hua Weiyong, director of College of International Culture of South China Normal University Prof. Zuo Junpeng and director of College of Math Science of South China Normal University Prof. Liu Jianwen attended the meeting.
Vice Rector of University of Latvia Prof. Andris Kangro warmly welcomed the delegation of South China Normal University. He introduced the content of the meeting is to summarize the work of Confucius Institute in the first half year of 2015, while discussing the work plan of Confucius Institute in the second half year.
Confucius Institute at University of Latvia foreign side director Prof. Peteris Pildegovics summarized the work of Confucius Institute in the first half year of 2015.In teaching activities，Confucius Institute had an official starting of Chinese class in the new teaching site and an official launching of the New Confucius Classroom, successfully held the HSK examination, had new breakthroughs of “Chinese Bridge” competition and had innovative forms of Chinese Corner. In cultural activities, had an unprecedented size of activities of Spring Festival and Lantern Festival, successfully held the “Sound of Soul” Concert, successfully held the “Peking Opera Seminar”, expanded the “Chinese Religious Culture” lecture, and had colorful cultural activities of teaching sites.
Confucius Institute at University of Latvia Chinese side director Prof. Shang Quanyu discussed the work plan of Confucius Institute in the second half year. In teaching activities, we will merge teaching sites strengthen the operation of new teaching site, new Confucius classroom and the management of teaching at headquarters of Confucius Institute at University of Latvia, expand faculty and improve teaching quality, promote the HSK Test and the Chinese Corner. In cultural activities, we will hold activities for the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Confucius Institute Day, art troupe exchange, lectures on religious culture and Launch TV programs on Chinese language and culture.
After discussion, vice rector of South China Normal University Prof. Huang Xiaobo expressed thankfulness to University of Latvia. The teaching sites of CILU developed fast. The number of teachers and volunteers grew steadily. The competitors of Chinese Bridge Competition from Latvia did a good job. Culture activities of CILU were excellent, had a further influence. As the Chinese side cooperation university, South China Normal University saw the development of CILU and hope it will develop better and better. SCNU will continue supporting the work from every aspect like the council construction, summer camp holding and foreign students exchange.
In the end, Vice Rector of University of Latvia Prof. Andris Kangro concluded that based on the good platform of CILU, South China Normal University and University of Latvia would constantly expand their cooperation and communication in other areas.
