Suggestions from the Vice President of Latvia University on Confucius Institute’s teaching and cultural activities

On March 17, Valdis Segliņš, Vice President of Latvia University visited the Confucius Institute Office, and proposed three suggestions for the Chinese language teaching and cultural activities of the Confucius Institute based on the feedback he received at the relevant Latvian education department meetings.

First, expand the radiation scope and strength of the Confucius Institute and its teaching sites, including the Chinese language teaching and cultural activities of the Confucius Institute and various teaching sites, which need to be widely advertised to neighboring countries, neighboring cities and schools (the border between Lithuania and Latvia The school is willing to learn Chinese in Latvian schools); the Confucius classrooms and teaching sites use Chinese language and culture teaching as a link and platform to participate in activities and strengthen exchanges and cooperation; Erdiga, Madonna, Tulsi, etc.) have branch campuses, and the Confucius Institute needs to strengthen communication and contact with these seven branch campuses to share Chinese teaching.

Second, strengthen and improve the Chinese teaching examination and evaluation system of the Confucius Institute. On the certificate of completion issued by the Confucius Institute, the credit hours need to be converted into EU credits. For the students’ HSK scores, the Confucius Institute needs to apply to the Latvian Ministry of Education for certification and obtain EU recognition. Improve certificate recognition.

Third, strengthen and enhance the cooperation between the Confucius Institute and the Sinology major of the School of Humanities. The basic language courses for undergraduates majoring in Sinology can be set up in the Confucius Institute for the lower grades, and the courses for the senior grades can be set up in the College of Humanities. 第二,加强和完善孔子学院中文教学考试测评体系,孔子学院颁发的结业证书上,学时数需换算成欧盟学分,对于学生的HSK成绩,孔院需向拉脱维亚教育部申请认证,获得欧盟认可,提高证书认可度。

第三,加强和提升孔子学院和人文学院汉学专业之间的合作,汉学专业本科生低年级的语言基础课程可以设在孔子学院,高年级课程设在人文学院,孔子学院也为汉学专业毕业生开设高级继续教育课程。

最后,下个月开始讨论并细化具体措施。
