With the support of “Chinese Bridge Fund” established by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, the 10th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition in Latvia, sponsored by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Latvia, organized by Confucius Institute at University of Latvia, co-organized by Confucius Centre at Stradins University, Faculty of Humanities at University of Latvia, Vidzeme University, Riga +Culture Secondary School, Riga 68th Secondary School, Riga 34th Secondary School, will be held on April 23rd , 2013.
Ⅰ. Purpose
The purpose of holding this competition is to promote Chinese language and culture in Latvia, to provide a platform for Chinese language learners of Latvia to show their achievements of using Chinese and learn from each other. and also to motivate their interest and enthusiasm to learn Chinese, to improve their understanding of Chinese language and culture. In addition, the competition also aims at selecting the qualified candidates for the upcoming 12th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign college students as well as the 6th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign secondary school students, which will be held in China.

Latvian residents whose mother language is not Chinese
Ⅳ. Classification of Participants
The competition will be classified as Students Group in Elementary/Secondary School and Undergraduates/Adults Group based on participants’ age and years of learning Chinese
Ⅴ. Requirements for Application
1. Teenagers and Children’s Division
(1) Primary Level—— 6-13 years old, learning Chinese less than 1 year ( including 1year)
(2) Intermediate Level——6-20 years old, learning Chinese less than 2 years (including 2 years)
(3) Advanced Level——13-20 years old, learning Chinese more than 2 years.
2. Adults and college students Division
(1) Primary Level——18-30 years old, undergraduates in enrollment or non-students adults, learning Chinese less than 1 year (including 1 year)
(2) Intermediate Level——18-30 years old, undergraduates in enrollment or non-students adults, learning Chinese 1-3 years (including 3 years)
(3) Advanced Level——18-30 years old, undergraduates in enrollment or non-Students adults, from 18 to 30 years old , learning Chinese more than 3 years
Ⅵ. Contents of Competition
1.The General Requirement
(1) Making a Speech in Chinese (Without notes, 2-3 minutes)
(2) Test on Language ability of Chinese and Chinese Culture (including Knowledge of Chinese Language, Culture and National Conditions)
(3) Talent Show on Chinese Cultural Skills (including Chinese Songs, Chinese Dancing, Folk Arts forms, Musical Instruments, Chinese Calligraphies, Chinese Painting, Paper-cutting, Martial Arts and etc.)

Primary Level
A. Self-introducing (2 minutes)
B. Singing Chinese Songs or Reciting Chinese Poems (2 minutes)
Intermediate Level
A. Self-introducing (2 minutes)
B. Making a Speech with the Theme (1-2 minutes)
C. Talent Show on Chinese Cultural Skills (1-2minutes)
Advanced Level
A. Self-introducing + Making a Speech with the theme (3 minutes)
B. Answering Three Questions
C. Talent Show on Chinese Cultural Skills (1-2minutes)
(2) Adults and College students Division
Primary Level
A. Self-introducing (2 minutes)
B. Telling Chinese Stories or Making a Speech with His/Her Selecting Subject or
Reciting Chinese Poems (1-2 minutes)
Intermediate Level
A. Making a Speech with the Theme (2 minutes)
B. Answering Three Questions
C. Talent Show on Chinese Cultural Skills (1-2minutes)
Advanced Level
A. Making a Speech with The theme (3 minutes)
B. Answering Three Questions
C. Answering questions raised by the judges on the Scene
D. Talent Show on Chinese Cultural Skills (1-2minutes)
Notes:①Relevant references and reviewing materials will be published on the websites of each registry office;
②The Content of Talent Show on Chinese cultural skills can be chosen by participants, who could be rewarded extra marks by the Committee of Judges based on their performances on the scene.

VIII. The Preliminary Competition

April 9 th-16 th (It will be separately held by organizers of each registration place),

It will be decided by organizers of each registration place, but the name list of candidates who will participate in the final competition should be sent to Marija Jurso (marijajurso@gmail.com) before April 16th, 2013.

Ⅶ. Award
(1)First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize will be given for each level in final competition (18 in total), the Superior Prize will be given to the rest of participants in final competition. All recipients of prizes will be rewarded trophies and certifications.
(2)The champion of advanced level in Adults and College students Division and Teenagers and Children’s Division will be separately qualified to go to China for taking part in the 12th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign college students or the 6th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign secondary students held in Changsha, China, as the representatives of Latvia. The expenses for competition will be undertaken by Chinese Government, including international travel, accommodation and travel insurance. In addition, the champion in Adults and College students Division can acquire Confucius Institute scholarship issued by Chinese government for one semester.
(3)The champion of intermediate level in Adults and College students Division and Teenagers and Children’s Division will be separately qualified to be present to the final competitions held in China as audiences. The expenses in China will be undertaken by Chinese Government, including international travel, accommodation and travel insurance.
