A Bite of China ——Confucius Institute of Latvia University successfully held the first “Dumplings Making Competition”
At 6 o’clock on December 12th, Confucius Institute of Latvia University successfully held the first “Dumplings Making Competition” in Beijing Restaurant. More than 30 people have taken part in this activity, including students and teachers from Confucius Institute of Latvia University and reporters from Latvia Television.
The activity started with cheerful music. At the very beginning, the host introduced Chinese dumpling culture to all the students and then taught them how to make dumplings. Under the construction of two expects, everybody rolled their sleeves, kneaded dough and filled stuffing happily. After learning how to make it, they had a competition of “Who makes the fastest”. The students were divided into 4 groups, and the group who can make the most dumplings in 10 minutes will be the winner. The youth group won this part with 41 dumplings in 10 minutes and each member was given a beautiful gift of Chinese paper-cutting from Confucius Institute. Then came the last part of the activity called “Who Makes the Best”. Finally, Johny from advanced class, together with his partner, won this part with a creative heart-shaped dumpling and were rewarded with ceramic screen and Peking Opera books. After the whole part of making dumplings, all the participants tasted their works as well as other Chinese food.
The activity ended in a joyous and harmonious atmosphere. The participants all agreed that it was quite interesting and meaningful to hold such an activity, which not only let them know more about Chinese food culture, but also made them want to learn Chinese well. They hope to have some more activities like this in the future.
